Teddington Nub News aims to be supportive to EVERY element of the community from business and shops to people and charities and clubs and sports organisations.

Everyone is finding it tough at the moment and is desperate to get back to normal.

We will be profiling some of these local businesses and groups regularly over the coming weeks in a feature called UP CLOSE IN TEDDINGTON in the hope that we can be a supportive springboard for your full return to business as usual.

This week we spoke to Jess Williams from Cobweb's Attic about her business and coping with long COVID.

Starting Cobweb's Attic

Jess is a data engineer for Surrey County Council and led an active life before lockdown.

Like all of us however things became very different from March onwards.

Jess told Nub News how she started Cobweb's Attic. She said: "I've always loved candles and I have more house plants than I have space for.

"My boyfriend got me make your own candle kit which I loved.

"I showed them to my neighbours and one of them wanted to buy them from me - so the business went from there."

Jess makes all manner of candles with a variety of scents from vanilla bean to mulled wine.

The name

So how did the name come about?

Jess explained: "Cobwebb is my cat that I got at the start of lockdown.

"He is a maniac and loves getting involved when I'm making the candles.

"Plus I live in a small attic flat!"

Getting though Long COVID

Back in September Jess caught COVID-19 and is still suffering with symptoms, such as breathlessness, to this day.

Jess explained that running Cobweb's Attic has been a huge help in this difficult period.

She said: "Doing this has literally saved me - it has given me a real sense of purpose.

"Making the candles has been really, really rewarding as people seem to like them.

"It has been great for my mental health."

The Future

It is full steam ahead for Cobweb's Attic going into 2021.

With sales a lot better than expected Jess is looking to get in new flowers to press and to continue to make great scented candles.
