Teddington Nub News aims to be supportive to EVERY element of the community from business and shops to people and charities and clubs and sports organisations.

Everyone is finding it tough at the moment and is desperate to get back to normal.

We will be profiling some of these local businesses and groups regularly over coming weeks in a feature called CLOSE UP IN TEDDINGTON in the hope that we can be a supportive springboard for your full return to business as usual.

This week we talked to Caroline Nicholls from Slightly Quirky Interior Designs.

The Business

Caroline first told us all about the business.

She said: "We are based in Shepperton Studios and alongside me and my business partner we have two other people working with us.

"We focus on residential interior design and every project is unique for us.

"The home should be a reflection of you and every project we do is bespoke to that home.

"We do anything from single rooms to whole four or five bedroom houses."

Getting started

The business was originally founded by Caroline's business partner Deborah back in 2006.

The aim of the business is to not produce the predictable designs that other companies use but make bespoke designs for every single project.

Caroline told me how a chance meeting with Deborah led to her getting involved in the business ten years later.

She said: "I used to work as an estate agent and sold Deborah an apartment a number of years ago.

"Eventually I decided to retrain as an interior design and it was on the day of my graduation we bumped into each other again.

"It was a real sliding doors moment as I'm now a director of the company after joining in 2016."

"Deborah and I are a lovely pair and we compliment each other really well."

Lockdown and beyond

Lockdown obviously had a huge effect on business back in March.

The team could no longer go into homes and start designing as the whole of society ground to a halt.

However there has been an incredible bounce back since getting underway again.

Caroline added: "We have started 12 new projects in the last few months.

"I had every faith that the customers would return.

"Now we are seeing a huge demand for home office designs.

"The normal experiences that we used to have like going to the theatre we can't have any more - so people want an experience in their homes.

"Our bespoke designs can give them that exciting experience."

Making the most of space

Space is very important to the Slightly Quirky team.

Caroline said: "We love making open plan designs and zoning different parts of the space.

"We come at things differently from a traditional architect.

"Using light and different layers is also really important in our work."
