Boris Johnson has today given more details on the Covid restrictions here in Teddington and across England.

Gatherings of more than six people, indoors or outdoors, will be made illegal from next week.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: "We must act and we must remember the basics. Wash your hands... and wear a face covering... and get a test.

"Only book a test if you have a fever, a continuous cough or losing your sense of taste and smell.

"The rules have become complicated and confusing. We are simplifying and strengthening the rules.

"You must not meet socially in groups of more than six in any setting and if you do you will be breaking the law."

The rule of six will be under constant review.

Schools, places of work and support bubbles will be unaffected by these changes.

Covid secure venues can still have more than six people but it will be compulsory to give your details for test and trace purposes.

Covid marshals will be introduced to enforce social distancing in city and town centres.

The programme to bring people back into stadiums and conference centres is also under review.

Mr Johnson also urged students to follow the new rules.

The PM wants 500,000 tests a day by the end of October.

Plans are also being developed to produce 20 minute tests that could see life back to normal.

He explained that audiences at at theatre could be quickly tested and then allowed into the theatre if testing negative.

This approach is being piloted in Salford next month.

The press conference in Downing Street began with Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty talking us through the latest data.

He highlighted the increase in cases amongst people aged 20-29 but also that cases remained low amongst the very oldest and youngest in society.

Mr Whitty emphasised the need for decisive action.
