A couple of months ago the Chairman of Hearts Football Club expressed disappointment that the playing fields and Udney Park remained out of proper use.

Thamesians RFC were another club who explored the possibility of moving to Udney Park playing fields.

It seemed like this might become a possibility when the fields were granted LGS status, and the plans to develop large parts of the site into luxury flats and a doctor's surgery were rejected.

Considerable efforts were made to assemble a consortium of community sports clubs to purchase the fields, but all overtures to Quantum (the owners of the land) to purchase the site have thus far been ignored.

The radio silence is all the more disappointing given that a seven figure offer was mooted in line with a playing field valuation.

The courtesy of a response would have been appreciated. The intentions of Quantum thus remain unclear.

When the country eventually emerges from Covid restrictions, outdoor playing space will be even more important to keep everyone mentally and physically fit.

Despite this backdrop there has been no progress on securing the fields for community use.

Teddington RFC have use of one pitch for evening training, but the rest of the twelve and a half acre site remains out of public use.

Hopefully 2021 may bring more positive news.
