Train fault causes disruption at Barnes, Barnes Bridge and Richmond stations
By Cesar Medina 3rd Feb 2026
Passengers travelling through Barnes, Barnes Bridge and surrounding stations faced disruption today (Tuesday, 3 February) after a fault was reported on a train between the two stations.
South Western Railway (SWR) confirmed that some lines serving Barnes, Hounslow and Richmond were blocked, leading to delays and alterations to services running through the area.
Disruption is expected to continue until around 6pm though there is currently no confirmed time for when the affected lines will fully reopen.
In a statement, rail operators said train crews are in contact with fleet maintenance teams, who are investigating the fault and working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
Passengers have been advised that their tickets will be accepted at no extra cost on a range of Transport for London bus routes while the disruption continues.
These include buses serving Putney, Barnes, Barnes Bridge, Brentford, Syon Lane, Isleworth, Hounslow, Mortlake, North Sheen, Richmond, St Margarets, Twickenham, Whitton and Feltham.
Rail staff are available to help passengers with onward travel, and station help points can also be used for assistance.
Passengers have been apologised to for the disruption, with rail operators urging travellers to allow extra time for journeys this evening.
