Sadly this year one of the UK's most famous sporting events, Wimbledon, was cancelled due to the global pandemic.

We know many people in Teddington love going to the championships and would have sorely missed them this year.

So what is the status of the championships next year? Well there are three scenarios according to the All England Lawn Tennis Club, who organise the championships.

  1. A Full Championships
  2. A reduced capacity championships
  3. A behind closed-doors championships

The Club said: "We are working closely with the relevant government and public health authorities, alongside the rest of the sports industry, to understand the varying challenges and opportunities presented by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic."

Which scenario takes place will depend on the pandemic situation at the time.

The club also have released an update on their coronavirus fund:

"We are proud to continue to support the response to the coronavirus pandemic, and are delighted to announce that our Wingfield Kitchen's provision of 200 hot meals a day to those in need in the local community will now continue until Christmas.

"So far over £750,000 of the Wimbledon Foundation Coronavirus Fund has been donated to local and national charities and community organisations. Awards under this Fund have focused on addressing immediate needs of those most severely affected by the pandemic, supporting children and young people, providing mental health support, especially for those on the front line of the pandemic response, and caring for people who are homeless."
