The 79th Kew Horticultural Society (KHS) Summer Show on Kew Green is happening on Saturday 24 August and residents are invited to join.

It is a traditional horticultural, flower and produce show and has been going in one form or another since the late 1930s.

The fair will have a marquee full of exhibits from vegetables and fruit to flowers and plants, and from cookery, art and craft to photography and floral art.

Last year, 128 people entered something and over 700 visitors came through the marquee.

There will also be traditional stalls on the Green, such as Tombola, Bric-a-Brac, Plants and books, and the popular Tea Tent.

Some commercial stalls with a horticultural bent will also appear at the fair, along with some stalls from local charities such as Rotary and Kew Society.

An auction of produce takes place at the end of the afternoon, following the presentation of the cups.

Furthermore, there will be live music and Punch and Judy shows will be on stage throughout the day for the children.

In addition to this, there will also be a food court selling delicious homemade cakes, tea, coffee and traditional lemonade.

Residents are welcome to enter a competition by submitting their homegrown produce, flowers, cakes or crafts into one of over 100 categories, with specific classes for children.

Frances Goodwin, KHS Secretary said: "We love the show as it is one of the last remaining traditional horticultural shows in London and we are continuing a tradition begun in the 1930s.

"Many of the team came to the show when they were children and entered classes such as 'A Miniature Garden' and have very happy and special memories of the day."

"It is wonderful to see what people can grow in their gardens and allotments or create at home.

"We encourage everyone to have a go, but whether you are an exhibitor or a visitor to the marquee, you will enjoy the connection to the natural world we showcase every year," said Goodwin.

Founded in 1938, the Kew Horticultural Society is the focus for amateur gardeners and garden lovers in Kew.
