Teddington's oldest cafe, which first opened in 1997, could get a rear extension.

Mimmo, which is located on Broad Street, is seeking Richmond Council's permission to construct a "single storey rear extension to [the] cafe with a new external staircase and walkway to flats above".

The subject property is a three storey, mid terrace building, with the ground floor currently being used as an A3 Café use with the upper two floors as one and two bed flats.

There is a previously built single storey extension to the rear of the commercial which was previously approved under planning.

The original property is of traditional construction for its age with solid brick enclosing walls. There is a rear access road providing access to the rear of the property and the flats above.

The property is located on the northern side and towards the eastern end of Broad Street forming part of a parade of shops.

It is in a mixed use area with both commercial and residential property close by.

In addition the site is well served by road and public transport links with bus routes and Railway Station close by. Generally the property is well served by amenities.

The proposed extension increases the footprint of the building by 32 metres squared approximately.

The proposals hope to provide additional storage space within the commercial unit by building in line with the neighbouring single storey rear extension.

The roof will be a flat roof and covered in felt as existing, providing a walkway for the new stairs to the units above. The flue is to remain in the same position and to be unaltered.

Richmond Council expects to make a decision on this application by 11 September.

The full planning application can be viewed here.
