The former Barclays Bank building in Teddington is being turned into a gym, Nub News can reveal today.
Work has just started on the landmark 19th century building on the corner of The Causeway and Broad Street.
It is hoped the new state-of-the-art gym will open in February next year.
Nub News has learned that the building has been bought by a US-based fitness company gym called F45, which already has facilities in Kingston, South Wimbledon and Chiswick.
F45 currently has 1750 studios in 45 countries, and the business originally started in Australia.
The 'F' in its name stands for 'functional training', while 45 is the "is the total amount of time for sweat dripping, heart pumping fun" according to the company's website.
It adds: "F45 Training workouts are designed to unify the muscle groups of the body and to help make you feel and perform better in all aspects of your life."
The Teddington branch of Barclays was one of hundreds which closed down last year due to customers mainly using online or mobile banking methods rather than in-person stores.
The new gym that replaces it will also have yoga studios on the second floor and offices on the top floor.
Membership of F45 will cost around £65 per month, or possibly £20 per week for a classes trial.
Last year the former Lloyds Bank on Teddington high street reopened as Awesome Studios which provides dance and fitness classes for adults and children.
The old HSBC building on the High Street remains on the market and unoccupied amid speculation it could be converted into a small cinema.
Teddington's sole banking facility is now the Halifax on Broad Street but there are several ATMS on both the main streets that are still in action.
