Teddington woman braves the freezing water to raise money for life-changing surgery
Freezing waters do not look appealing at this time of year.
However Louise Hamblin, 61, has a great reason to take the plunge.
She is undertaking a 6km swimming challenge to help raise money for her son's girlfriend, Beth Goodier.
Beth suffers from two rare genetic conditions but an £80,000 surgery could change her life.
Both Kleine-Levin Syndrome (KLS) and Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) have had a huge impact on the 25-year-old.
Louise already has completed a huge 61km swim in the summer - but obviously swimming in the winter provides a different challenge.
So while the distance is shorter the challenge is still great for the Teddington resident - especially as she only took up wild water swimming 18 months ago.
It is also important to stay safe in the water at the moment and that swimming should not be undertaken without a proper induction.
Louise spoke to Nub News in the summer to tell us about the challenge she is taking on.
She said: "I never used to like exercise and at school I never went to any P.E lessons.
"But that all changed a year ago when I joined Surrey Outdoor Swimmers. I've been swimming in the Thames ever since.
Already nearly £25,000 has been raised by the Back Beth appeal.
