Teddington unites for walk to challenge violence against women and girls
Teddington united on Saturday evening for the White Ribbon Torch Walk to raise awareness of violence against women and girls.
The walk began at the Landmark Arts centre at 4.30pm with those in attendance from the local community, including the Richmond Mayor, Cllr Julia Cambridge, Council leader, Cllr Gareth Roberts and Twickenham MP, Munira Wilson, making their way through Teddington High Street and Broad Street with torches to demonstrate the town's solidarity with victims and the collective determination to eliminate the issue.
Teddington's White Ribbon Torch Walk fell on the final day of the 16 days of action circulating the subject, with the first day, 25 November, marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
White Ribbon is the UK's leading charity engaging men and boys to end violence against women and girls.
The organisation aims to challenge the long established, and harmful, attitudes, systems and behaviours around masculinity that perpetuate gender inequality and men's violence against women.
