Udney Park has been a hot topic in Teddington for some months now.

Site owners Quantum/AAH have had planning permission denied to build on a proportion of the fields.

Teddington Rugby Club have been using the pitches for over 50 years and have now secured them for at least the coming season and potentially longer.

The club has been able to secure access to a dedicated area on the site to the south end, adjacent to the tennis courts, a slightly different location to previous years.

The decision means the club's junior, women's and men's teams now have a dedicated space to train for the coming season.

The Udney Park site is however now in poor condition after vandalism and months of not being used.

As part of the agreement with Quantum the club will pay for new boundary fencing and secure gates to be installed and will be responsible for the general upkeep of the site.

Teddington RFC Chairman Simon Davis said:

"This is fantastic news for the club. To secure a facility in the centre of Teddington is very important to us. It means we can provide a single local training venue for all our teams and we can continue to grow our rugby club.

"We'll be doing all we can to bring the site back to its former state and hopefully it will continue to be an asset for the local community for many years to come."
