Teddington residents have voiced their disapproval regarding a recently submitted planning application proposing the erection of a 5G mast by the Clapperstile Gate entry into Bushy Park.

Telecom firm Dalcour Maclaren, have submitted the application on behalf of H3G (Three UK), which proposes a 15-metre-high mobile phone mast at the Bushy Park entrance off Queens Road.

Local residents have grown frustrated due to the minimal consultation they have received from Dalcour Maclaren or Richmond Council, and are concerned the proposed mast would significantly hinder the appeal of the area and tarnish the historical importance of the Clapperstile Gate.

The entrance to Bushy Park dates back to at least 1894 and has appeared in numerous films over the years.

In an open letter to Teddington residents, Brian Holder, Chair of the Queens Road Residents Association (QRRA) laid out the ramifications the erected mast would bring to the area, and has urged for stronger communication from Dalcour Maclaren moving forward as a means of finding a suitable solution.

Within his letter he said: "The enormous and ugly telephone column is 15 metres (about 49 feet) high and would be by far the tallest structure in Queens Road, plus numerous cabinets, spoiling the appearance of the whole area.

"The nearest house is only a few feet away, with dozens of other domestic properties surrounding the site less than 50 metres away. I am sure that all local residents will feel as we do, that this small area is a totally unsuitable site for such a large structure, particularly as it is so close to private properties on all sides, and with a Royal Park as a close neighbour and a Children's' nursery only yards away.

"Incidentally, the Bullard Road name has appeared completely out of the blue, and we were not consulted about the naming of that short section of road."

Mr Holder added: "The QRRA has asked for Teddington Society Planning Group to have a look at this application with a view to recommending more suitable sites and less invasive sites in mind - such as Coleshill Passage which could house these large columns, and more importantly, be almost completely out of sight.

"I, and my Queens Road colleagues and neighbours leaving in nearby roads will be more than happy to meet representatives of the telephone company and council officers to find a more suitable site, to ensure that the Community keeps this attractive park entrance free of unnecessary electronic clutter."

Residents can view the application here, where you are able to leave your thoughts regarding the proposed 5G mast.
