Teddington Police confiscated three e-scooters in one day last week as part of a crack-down on e-scooter crime, which is on the rise across the UK.

The incidents happened on Friday 14 May, the same day that 12 e-scooter riders were reported for traffic offences in nearby Kingston.

In a statement on social media at the time, Teddington Ward Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "Three e scooters stopped and seized today in Teddington by local officers.

"Riders reported for driving without insurance and licence offences.

"Please remember that riding these vehicles in public is illegal and can be dangerous."

While it is currently illegal to ride e-scooters in public or on private property without consent from the landowner, trials of the devices are taking place across the UK.

During these trials, e-scooters with additional safety features such as front and back lights and warning systems are legally allowed to be rented out and used by members of the public, provided they keep to the speed limit of 12.5 miles per hour.

Earlier today, it was announced that an e-scooter trial will take place in several London boroughs including Richmond next month on June 7.

Last year there was a rise in traffic offences involving e-scooters, with Scotland Yard recording more than 200 incidents and 150 of the devices being seized by the Metropolitan Police.
