Extra police were called to Teddington Lock this afternoon to stop a mini-invasion of the beach area opposite the Anglers pub.

Scores of youngsters arrived on the Teddington side of the foot-bridge to make their way across to the sunbathing area but police turned them back.

Later, they moved on to the beach in a co-ordinated way to tackle the youngsters, ordering them to remove their towels and pick up their rubbish.

At around 7pm as the youngsters dispersed a female cyclist told the police that youngsters had resumed leaping from the bridge.

She was confronted and taunted by the group as a 'grass' and the police moved on to the bridge for a second time as the early evening temperatures remained in the late 20's.
