Teddington: driver arrested after car crash on Kingston Road

A driver was arrested after crashing into a parked car on a road in Teddington last month.

The crash happened on Kingston Road, near the junction with Marston Road, at around 2.20am on August 22.

The man driving the car fled the scene but was found nearby by police.

He was arrested for driving while unfit and failing to stop at an accident.

Three fire engines from Twickenham and Kingston fire stations and a fire rescue unit from Heston Fire Station were called to the scene.

The road was closed as the vehicle was recovered.

An ambulance crew was also at the scene. They treated the driver and took him to hospital.

A spokesperson for the Met Police South-West Basic Command Unit (BCU) told Nub News: "At around 0220hrs on Sunday 22nd August 2021 police came across a road traffic collision on Kingston Road, near Marston Road involving two vehicles.

"The driver had decamped but was found a short time later close to the scene and arrested for driving whilst unfit and failing to stop at an accident.

"The road was closed for a short while, then reopened and reduced to one lane to assist with the recovery of the vehicle."

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 2.29am on 22 August to reports of a road traffic collision on Kingston Road, Hampton Wick.

"We sent an ambulance crew, an incident response officer, and hazardous area response teams.

"A man was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital."

The London Fire Brigade said in a statement: "Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on Kingston Road in Teddington on Sunday morning, [22 August].

A vehicle had been in collision with a parked car and overturned. One person left the vehicle before the Brigade arrived.

The Brigade was called at 0236 and the incident was over for firefighters by 0255.
