Teddington couple, Margaret Allen and her husband, Rob, successfully completed a wire challenge at Twickenham Stadium in support of local charity, Crossroads Care Richmond and Kingston, on Friday, 17 October.

Flying 150 metres across the iconic rugby pitch would be nerve-racking for anyone, but for Margaret, who has a fear of heights, this was a massive personal challenge.

Margaret has been volunteering with Crossroads Care for several months and has seen first-hand the impact that the charity has on unpaid carers — families supporting loved ones with dementia, disabilities, and complex needs.

That is why she decided to do something completely out of her comfort zone to help the many carers that Crossroads supports.

She said: "I was absolutely terrified and was shaking when I finished, but I wanted to do this for Crossroads, a local charity that provides vital home and community respite to unpaid carers.

"Every penny that you have given will help carers to have a much-needed break, so thank you to everyone who has donated — we really do appreciate it.

"And for all you doubting Thomases out there, I actually flew across Twickenham Stadium twice and I really enjoyed it second time around!"

Julie Da Costa, Crossroads Care's CEO, added: "We're so proud of you, Margaret, and beyond grateful to you for being so brave. Our gratitude also to everyone who has so kindly donated to this zip-wiring challenge."

You can still donate to Margaret and Rob's dare devil fundraiser via their JustGiving page here.
