The Armistice, an agreement to end the fighting of the First World War as a prelude to peace negotiations, began at 11am on 11 November 1918. Armistice is Latin for to stand (still) arms. To this day we mark Armistice Day around the United Kingdom with a Two Minute Silence at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month. This year the National Memorial Arboretum will be broadcasting their annual Armistice Day Service of Remembrance, live from the Armed Forces Memorial. The service will commemorate the signing of the Armistice which brought an end to the First World War and will remember all those who gave their lives in service to their country since 1914. The closed service will only be attended by invited guests but you can watch a live broadcast of the service from 10.45am on Thursday 11 November. Click this link to watch the broadcast In Teddington there will be a service today at Stanley school at 11am in the school grounds where there is a war memorial to those who served and fell in wars. And this Sunday there will be a parade as usual through Teddington high street to the Hospital's memorial where wreaths will be laid. Starting at 10am outside the Royal British Legion branch, with wreaths laid at 10.45. Find out more about remembrance events in Richmond borough here. We also wanted to highlight this article from last year about a poignant remembrance display outside St Mark's church, paying tribute to local fallen soldiers. You can also find out how to support this year's Poppy Appeal in Teddington. We will remember them
