Teddington-based organiser of Mighty Convoy's missions to Ukraine receives medal
The Teddington-based organiser of Mighty Convoy, which sends aid to Ukraine, has received a special medal with the words "Volunteer of Ukraine" and "by Call of the Soul" engraved.
Simon Brake, who lives on Teddington's Cambridge Road, was given the medal on Mighty Convoy's latest trip to Ukraine, where they delivered over 10000 food pouches for struggling civilians and soldiers on the frontline.
He was also presented with a painting of a woman in traditional Ukrainian blue and yellow colours.
During the ceremony, Brake said: "We in the UK with our lucky lives cannot even imagine how it's been for Ukraine in general and for the soldiers and for and the people who are fighting. We can't really imagine.
"And I promise that we will keep trying and keep going as long as you need us.
"Ukraine is in my heart, so we stand with Ukraine."
Mighty Convoy is a non-profit founded by three friends to raise funds to buy second-hand ambulances and 4x4 pick-up trucks, fill them with aid and drive them to Ukraine.
The vehicles and the aid it is taking are urgently needed and incredibly valuable to the medical teams on the ground in Ukraine.
The organisation's key partners are the International Christian Medical and Dental Association (ICMDA) and their sister organisation, the Christian Medical Association Ukraine (CMAU).
