The Teddington-based creator of Bodyguard – the most watched drama of the decade – Jed Mercurio has been made an OBE in the New Year Honours list.

Jed also brought Line of Duty to our screens, the hit BBC series which will return with its sixth season in 2021.

He lives in Teddington with his family and in April threw his support behind the campaign to save the Landmark Arts Centre.

He said: "I'm honoured to receive an OBE, and humbled to have been included in the New Year Honours List alongside recipients who've achieved so much more, in particular for their charity work and in the covid pandemic.

"Many thanks to everyone who's sent their congratulations."

Jed, 54, is also the writer of Bodies, The Grimleys and Critical Cardiac Arrest.

Before launching himself into film he was a hospital doctor – providing the inspiration for much of his work – and an officer in the Royal Air Force.

The borough's recently retired police chief Sally Benatar was awarded a Queen's Police Medal.
