Bushy Park gates closure? Rules on New Year's Eve celebrations explained

By The Editor 5th Nov 2021

New Year's Eve – usually one of the biggest nights of the year.

But not in 2020.

Celebrations are being dialled down to prevent a rise in Covid-19 cases and the tubes will stop running at a normal hour.

Transport for London's managing director Vernon Everitt said: "With no public event to attend or late-night hospitality, our Tube and Rail services will not run all night on New Year's Eve. Buses will run a Saturday service through the night.

"Customers who do need to use the transport network should complete their journeys as early as possible and before midnight.

"You must not travel into central London on New Year's Eve unless this is for work or other legally permitted reasons."

Visiting the Royal Parks

Bushy Park authorities want to keep festivities to a minimum this year.

The pedestrian gates are usually open 24-hours a day but Royal Parks Police said it will consider a temporary closure if necessary and will have officers on patrol.

Richmond Park gates will be closed to visitors at 8pm tonight.

The Royal Parks charity said: "The park's pedestrian gates will close at 8pm on New Year's Eve to protect the health of visitors by limiting the spread of the coronavirus through large gatherings following the announcement that London has moved into Tier 4.

"In previous years, large numbers of people have attended the park to see in the New Year.

"The pedestrian gates will reopen by 6am on New Year's Day and people will be able to visit the park as usual."

Tier 4 rules

Teddington is in Tier 4 and the leader of Richmond Council urged people to stay at home this December 31.

Let's look forward to brighter times on New Year's Eve 2021.
