Our local MP has become a patron for charity Age UK Richmond.

The Liberal Democrat member for Twickenham has become a patron in order to advocate the needs of the elderly in the borough.

Munira Wilson told Age UK: "I am delighted to be a Patron of Age UK Richmond which does a wonderful job supporting elderly residents across our borough.

"The voluntary sector is carrying a large share of the burden of supporting older residents, which has been especially highlighted during the current global pandemic.

"Age UK Richmond makes a massive contribution."

Age UK have expressed their support for having the Lib Dem spokesperson for Health, Wellbeing and Social Care on board.

Richmond MP Sarah Olney has also become a patron for the charity.

Chief executive of Age UK Richmond Rob Burton added: "We are delighted that Sarah Olney MP and Munira Wilson MP have come on board as ambassadors of our charity to support older people in the Borough, particularly at this time, when we are altering the way we work to provide more IT support and bringing some of our help online.

"This is a challenging time for many, especially those most at risk of getting the virus including older and vulnerable people, who desperately need as much support as possible right now.

"We are happy to be able to continue working in the community during this time.

"We encourage the community to keep reminding any older resident who might need support that there is help available through our charity."

Age UK have been working in the local community for over 50 years, have 50 dedicated staff and 100 volunteers helping them deliver services and activities in the Borough of Richmond.
