A beloved volunteer-run festival in nearby Twickenham has reached its crowdfunding goal less than a week before it begins this weekend on Sunday 28 July.

The not-for-profit High Tide Festival relies on community donations alongside funds from Richmond Council, Discover Twickenham BID, and select corporate sponsors to pay their 'excellent' musicians 'properly for their time and talent,' according to co-founder and owner of Eel Pie Records, Kevin Jones.

Organisers managed their crowdfunding goal last night, with a donation of £26 at 6:03pm from their 287th supporter – a user known simply as Danny – pushing the total £1 over the £15,000 target.

The team is now pushing for their stretch target before Sunday's festivities begin, writing on their fundraising page: "If we get to the stretch target we will be able to be more generous with what we pay our performers.

"They will all get paid but wouldn't it be wonderful if we could afford to pay them really well to properly reward their talent?"

Donations are still being made despite user Danny taking the campaign over its initial goal. (Photo via High Tide's Crowdfunder page)

Local businesses and individual donations account for the majority of the free festival's funding, and help the festival to remain open to all while fairly compensating its lineup of over 60 bands and musicians.

Some of the rewards for donors are still available, like a photographic print of Queen from photographer and Twickenham resident Richard Clemence, or a number of A1-sized High Tide-themed limited edition prints created by artist Rhi Lee.
