Thousands turned up for Teddington's Christmas Lights Up event last night, (Thursday, 27 November), and it definitely got everyone in the festive spirit.

With High Street, Broad Street, and Church Road closed off for the event, locals were able to stroll up and down freely and enjoy food, drinks, and gift stalls.

Starting at 4.30pm, the Lantern Parade, led by the Teddington & Hampton Rotary Club and Teddington Rugby Club kicked off the event.

Locals were invited to join the parade, including families from Bushy Tails Nursery.

At the same time, there was a Santa's Grotto at the King's Head pub car park on Broad Street, which also had an outdoor stall selling drinks and snacks.

Across Teddington, local businesses also headed outside, selling food and drink or offering mince pies.

At 6pm was the main event, the grand switch on of the Christmas tree lights on Broad Street.

To prepare for this, a local singer serenaded attendees with hymns and pop songs.

The countdown to the switch on was welcomed with speeches from the Deputy Mayor of Richmond, Clare Vollum, two of the event's sponsors, The Lensbury and Chase Buchannan, and local MP Munira Wilson who said that Teddington's lights up event is the best in the borough.

Mimicking the classic red buzzer from Britain's Got Talent, the group then switched the lights on with a ten second countdown.

The night also saw the opening of the new Elleray Centre on North Lane at 5pm.

To celebrate the opening, the Elleray Community Association hosted a Christmas market in the new venue, which showcased a variety of gift stalls and allowed children to ride the ponies from Park Lane Stables.

It truly was a magical night and Teddington Together once again did an excellent job organising the event.
