Scouts from 2nd Teddington have recycled more than 1,000 batteries as part of a national initiative, helping to protect the environment and build more sustainable habits for the future.

The activity is part of a partnership between VARTA Consumer Batteries UK and The Scouts, which aims to inspire young people to take positive action for the planet.

As part of the campaign, young people from 2nd Teddington have been collecting used batteries and raising awareness of the importance of recycling batteries safely.

The initiative also includes a range of hands-on activities designed to build understanding of sustainability, including the 'Ready, Steady, Recycle' challenge, which encourages better recycling habits at home.

Cub Scout Volunteer Lola Doyle said: "As a Cub Scout Volunteer, I've been incredibly proud to see how enthusiastically our Cubs have embraced learning about why recycling batteries is so important.

"They made their own little battery pots to collect used batteries at home, which really helped bring the message into their everyday lives.

"As a group, we then came together to collect household batteries for the competition, and it's been fantastic to see their teamwork and commitment to making a positive difference for the environment."

Emmy Allen, age eight, added: "I think recycling batteries is important because it helps keep our planet clean, and I enjoyed collecting them at home."

"Together, we're helping to turn awareness into meaningful change and inspire lifelong responsibility for the planet."
