On Sunday, 18 August, a public memorial event to remember Amelie Delagrange will be taking place on Twickenham Green, Richmond Council confirms.

The commemoration marks the 20th anniversary of Amelie's murder and provides an opportunity for the community to "come together in remembrance and solidarity."

Richmond Council say the memorial will last for an hour, with speeches, laying of flowers and a choir performance.

Memorial details:

  • Date: Sunday 18 August 2024
  • Time: 3pm
  • Location: Amelie's Bench, Twickenham Green, TW2 5AQ

Miss Delagrange, a 22-year-old French student, had been living in Twickenham for three months when she was killed by Levi Bellfield on August 19, 2004.

She was working at a patisserie in Richmond while pursuing her passion for the English language in the UK.

Bellfield has been serving a whole-life prison since June 2011 after being found guilty of murdering Milly Dowler. He was already in jail for the murders of Miss Delagrange, Marsha McDonnell and the attempted murder of Kate Sheedy.

The council also encourage locals to participate in a bystander training session aimed at equipping residents with the skills to intervene safely and effectively in situations of harassment and violence.

The training is part of the council's ongoing efforts to combat violence against women and girls in our borough.
