Richmond Borough Council has today announced the launch of Careline - a brand new service for the borough.

Careline is the Richmond Council telecare alarm service designed to help older, frail or disabled people to remain in their own homes, safe in the knowledge that they always have somebody to help them in an emergency.

The monitoring and response service aims to help vulnerable residents manage the risks associated with living independently.

The service will be particularly useful for those who have to self-isolate due to Covid-19.

Councillor Piers Allen, Chair of the Adult Social Care, Health and Housing Committee, said:

"It can be hugely reassuring to know that help is on hand at the press of a button 24/7. We're more than able to welcome more customers and fully support our existing ones at this current challenging time.

"Careline can help with all sorts of problems, from the medical – for example, a fall, or a sudden illness – to safety concerns. At any time someone will be at the end of the phone line to help.

"Careline fills the gap for people who do not have someone who can respond to their needs at any time of the day or night.

"If you think you or a family member or friend may benefit from this service, we always recommend you speak to our Careline team."

Unobtrusive, wireless sensors are installed by the Careline team around the home.

These can detect potential problems like smoke, gas, a build-up of heat, flooding or even someone falling over.

The sensors automatically alert the Careline monitoring centre or a carer or key holder, who can then help.

The sensors can also allow the team to talk to residents wherever they are in their home without the need for them to pick up the phone.

Plus, those who subscribe can also alert the team to a problem by pressing a button on a pendant which is worn around the neck.
