Three of the UK's top comedians treated a Teddington audience to a night of side-splitting stand up last week, in the second of the Landmark Arts Centre's new monthly comedy nights.

The comedy stars, all represented by the producers of award-winning Channel 4 show Taskmaster, took to the stage of the Grade II* listed Church for a varied 2-hour show on Thursday 7 October.

Hosted by the Landmark Arts Centre, who sponsor Teddington Nub News, the evening highlighted the many forms that comedy can take - from deadpan one-liners to engaging tales of lockdown life .

Edinburgh regular Chloe Petts was the show's host and her experience was clear from the start.

She warmed up the audience easily with her excellent audience interaction skills, sparring with targets from the second and first row and prompting belly laughs with her off-the-cuff remarks.

This contrasted with the other two acts who focussed more on performing their own material than audience engagement.

But that isn't a criticism as both perfrmers had excellent sets which showcased their comedy strengths.

Julian Deane, a panel show writer and podcaster, got laughs from the start with a one-liner about Wetherspoons and things went surreally from there.

His deadpan delivery and perfectly set up punchlines made the minutes he was on stage fly by.

But for me, headliner Lauren Pattison was the highlight of the evening.

The 26-year-old, who has been doing comedy for 9 years now, immediately impressed with her confidence.

An excellent storyteller, Pattison knew her material in incredible detail and delivered her stories seamlessly.

Her set focused on her experiences after the covid-19 pandemic - from a painful break-up on April Fools Day to the trials of working as a checkout girl at Morrison's supermarket.

She told the audience how only a year earlier she'd been performing at the Sydney Opera House but with no work due to lockdown she'd had to move back north and find a retail job.

Pattison's down to earth personality won the audience over and her ability to find the comic gems in her experiences was inspiring.

I won't be surprised if she's back on our TV screens soon or perhaps even on stage in Sydney doing another international tour.

While not perhaps a traditional venue for comedy, the Landmark Arts Centre was set up well for the evening with a good sound system and helpful volunteers.

There was plenty of space for the audience and a bar with ice cream plus beers from Twickenham brewery Jawbone - good to see another local independent business being supported.

Tickets for the show cost £15 per person (£13 for Landmark members) which I thought was good value for money given the quality of the performers.

There is also the option to pay £10 extra and arrive earlier for a curry night.
