Police unable to charge ‘suspicious individual’ following a woman near Hampton Court
Surrey Police has received multiple reports over the suspicious behaviour of man in East Molesey, near Hampton Court, including one where a woman was left feeling "extremely shaken" after being followed.
The volume of reports and sightings in the past week led to schools issuing alerts to parents and carers to stay vigilant, especially when out with their families.
The man has been identified and spoken to, and no offences have been identified at this time.
The woman was said to have been followed along Vine Road around noon on Tuesday May 7, with local community groups also sharing warnings.
Surrey Police has said the man has since been spoken to, although no offences have been identified.
One letter sent out to parents read: "It has come to our attention that there have been reports of a suspicious individual who has been observed following women and children in the Molesey area.
"This individual's behaviour is concerning and we want to ensure the safety of everyone in our community. Whilst we do not want to cause undue alarm, we believe it is important to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures.
"We urge you to be aware of your surroundings at all times,especially when out with your families.
"If you notice anyone exhibiting suspicious behaviour or feel unsafe please do not hesitate to contact the authorities immediately."
Another message warned people to be "extremely vigilant".
A spokesperson for Surrey Police said: "We have received a number of reports from people with concerns about a man acting suspiciously in East Molesey.
"These include a report from a female resident reporting that she had been followed by an unknown man on Vine Road around midday on 7 May.
"She was, understandably, left extremely shaken by this incident.
"The man has been identified and spoken to, and no offences have been identified at this time.
"However, we do take these concerns extremely seriously and have stepped up patrols in the area. We will continue to monitor the situation and will review any further information which comes to light and take appropriate action if necessary.
"Please do not hesitate to report any concerns or information to us quoting SYP-20240513-0775."
