Plans have been submitted to convert the existing attic space in Barons court into four one-bedroom flats.

Barons Court is located on Broom Road in Teddington.

According to the applicant, Patrick Byrne, Barons Court is an existing block with eight two-bedroom flats.

The site is bounded by two-storey sports buildings, including squash courts, St Mary's University Pavillion, and changing facilities.

Byrne writes: "The proposal seeks to establish the principle of residential development within the existing building envelope, utilising underused attic space to prove four one-bedroom apartments."

He continues: "The amended proposal provides a suitable location for new one – two – person dwellings contained within the volume of re-constructed roof structure, which will match in all aspects of the existing roof structure, form, layout, and material use."

The proposed features and materials will include red brick, white render, black painted wooden casement windows, and plain red clay roof tiles.

According to Byrne, "The application site is part of a cluster of approximately 100 flats grouped in 12 apartment blocks".

He writes: "The development represents a minor intensification, forming a logical addition to the existing residential cluster.

"The proposed development would be particularly suitable for persons downsizing from traditional family-sized homes in the area, offering a more manageable living space within an established residential setting.

"The addition of smaller one-bedroom flats would provide a viable housing option for those seeking to remain in the community while reducing maintenance and living costs."

The council is yet to make a decision.
