There was a very high tide in Teddington today - and residents should expect similar scenes in the coming days.

The Thames came right up to the benches outside The Anglers pub where its pub garden starts.

On the other side of the bridge, the river had turked a murky light brown and foam was bobbing around.

A flood alert was issued covering the River Thames from Hampton and Thames Ditton to Teddington.

River levels reached 5.15 metres today (Tuesday, December 29) and are set to remain high.

Thankfully, homes are not expected to flood.

The Environment Agency said: "River levels are forecast to rise on the River Thames as a result of high tides coinciding with high river levels.

"The next high tide is expected at Hampton at 14:45 (29/12/20) and is forecast to reach 5.15m with the following tide at 02:45 (30/12/20) reaching 5.15m.

"We expect river levels to remain high over the next few days.

"We are closely monitoring the situation and our incident response staff are operating weirs to reduce flood risk.

"Please refer to the River and Sea levels in England webpage for current river levels and avoid contact with flood water."
