Squires Garden Centre in Twickenham is OPEN for business and trade is BLOSSOMING.

Owners of garden centres across the UK face massive losses with an estimated £500 million worth of plants being dumped because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Closure over the sunny Easter period has left garden centres and nurseries with no choice but to turn their plants to pulp.

The NHS has encouraged people to use the lockdown to tend their gardens because it is good for mental health.

One frustrated garden centre owner told The Times: "We've got the prescription people need but no way of getting it to them."

The Government is also coming under pressure to lift the full lockdown on garden centres and to allow a controlled 'click and collect' system in line with supermarket guidelines.

While the Sixth Cross Road garden centre is closed to all customers, staff are taking telephone orders between 9am and 1pm and offering a 'limited delivery service.'

Deliveries will be FREE within SEVEN MILES of the centre and they must be a minimum value of £50.

Because of the skeleton staff available to provide this service, delivery maybe delayed and take several days.
