By Tilly O'Brien 15th Jun 2026
Parkrun celebrated its millionth run at Bushy Park, where the running event originated over 20 years ago, on Saturday, 13 June.
To help mark the celebration, Parkrun's founder Paul Sinton-Hewitt joined the event along with Olympic athlete Dame Kelly Holmes, ski champion Dave Ryding and comedian Joe Wilkinson, as well as 1,667 athletes and 86 volunteers.
Speaking about the event, Parkrun said: "The sun came out, after being in hiding for a few weeks, and we were able to welcome some National Treasures to help us celebrate the occasion at the place where it all started over 20 years ago.
"Our founder, Paul Sinton-Hewitt was there and also volunteered as a scanner [on Saturday].
"Dame Kelly Holmes, comedian Joe Wilkinson and Dave Ryding, British Ski champion (who ran and came 6th overall) were also present.

"1,667 people ran or walked and 85 volunteers helped to make this event happen today. A big thank you to all of them.
"If you've never volunteered, why not give it a go. It is extremely rewarding and emphasises how important the volunteer role is. Just mail [email protected] We can never have too many volunteers."
