Parkrun to return to where it all started in Bushy Park next month
After seven months away Parkrun is scheduled to return next month.
The event originated at Bushy Park back in 2004 when just 13 runners took part in the 5km run.
Soon its popularity spread and now over two million people across the country have run the free 5km on a Saturday morning.
It has been a long time coming as Parkrun organisers hope to restart runs by the end of October in England.
Restrictions in the rest of the UK mean it is not yet possible to run events there.
Runners or walkers can take part in 5km events on Saturday mornings while 2km junior events take place on Sunday mornings.
The 729 different events across the country will remain free and run by volunteers.
Parkrun Chief Executive Nick Pearson said: "Everything in life comes with a risk, and we know and accept that we cannot remove all risks from the Parkrun environment. However, it is also important to balance the public health benefits of reopening our events, against the associated public health risks.
"We now believe, having spent considerable time gathering and understanding the evidence, that the benefits to reopening Parkrun far outweigh the risks."
