Over £2,800 raised for popular Teddington resident in need of a mobility scooter

By The Editor 5th Nov 2021

A popular Teddington resident will receive a new scooter thanks to the generosity of the people of Teddington.

Gina, who can often be seen around Teddington with her spaniels, had her mobility scooter taken away by the Department of Work and Pensions.

Gina is severely disabled, is three foot five and has spina bifida.

This condition, spina bifida, is a birth defect in which there is incomplete closing of the spine.

Despite living independently currently without this scooter Gina could walk a maximum of 20m, leaving her virtually housebound.

A sum of £2,800 needed to be raised to get Gina a new mobility scooter and the people of Teddington once again showed their great generosity.

Currently that target has been smashed and some lovely comments were left on the GoFundMe page.

Andrew Lyall said: "This lady has shown great courage in overcoming her disability and deserves everyone's support."

Others expressed their anger at the DWP decision.

Brian Bolman added: "I know of Gina having lived in Teddington for many years and also attended the same Charing Cross clinic as her with my disabled daughter.

"It is an appalling decision of the DWP. I suspect it's all too common."
