Outfoxed by a fence! Fox cub rescued in Teddington
A fox cub who got his head jammed in a broken fence in Teddington, has been rescued by the RSPCA and released back into the wild unharmed.
The curious young animal had got his head jammed on 27th May and was soon found by a Teddington resident at the back of her garden who immediately called the RSPCA for help.
Animal rescue officer Jade Guthrie, said: "This little chap's head was completely stuck between the fence post and the loose fence panel. I suspect he had been trying to jump through the gap, but missed, slipped down, and got trapped around the neck as the gap narrowed nearer to the ground. I could see he was not going anywhere without some help.
"We weren't sure how long he had been there, so I was keen to get him out as soon as possible. Luckily, I was able to pull back the panel and gently ease him out. He was clearly very relieved as he dashed away into the bushes and is hopefully now reunited with his family."
She continued: "At this time of the year, reports about young foxes getting themselves in a pickle tend to rocket. At that age, they're very curious about the world but unaware of the dangers. This incident had a happy ending, but could have turned out very differently. Our thanks go to the alert householder who spotted the plight of the fox cub and reported it to us."
