A new website has been launched giving details of the community bid for Udney Park, as organisers of the bid continue to make progress.

The site was created last week and has information on the plans for the fields, key stakeholders, supporters of the bid, and how to contact the organisers.

The site is available at www.udneypark.co.uk.

Organisers have also set up a charitable organisation, the Udney Park Playing Fields Trust, to which the website is attributed.

The Trust's role will be to put in the bid to buy the fields on behalf of the group.

If the bid is successful, the Trust will ensure the future use of the park as sports playing fields 'in perpetuity' and oversee a consultation with residents on the plans.

Update on the community bid for Udney Park playing fields

Bid organiser Jonathan Dunn said: "The bid by Udney Park Community Fields Trust to purchase the playing fields Udney Park is gathering some momentum and the latest updates can be found at our new website .

"The website also provides a link for everyone to provide comments, ask questions, or to simply offer words of support.

"Udney Park is currently under a six month moratorium due to the ACV process.

"During this period the land owners are obliged to engage with the Community Bid to see if a sale can be concluded and there will be updates on this in the weeks and months ahead.

"In the meantime Sports England and the various national sporting bodies are continuing dialogue in order to create a robust plan for the running of the Udney Park."

The bid to acquire Udney Park on behalf of the community follows six years of uncertainty over the future of the Playing Fields which were bought by private developer Quantum in 2015.

Plans by the developers to build apartments and a GP surgery on the site were opposed by community groups and Richmond Council.

In May last year Quantum lost an appeal to the Government Planning Inspectorate to develop the site.

Then in February this year Quantum announced that they planned to sell the site.

But the fields were declared an Asset of Community Value (ACV) and can legally only be sold to community groups until mid-August.

More updates to follow.
