New plans revealed for former HSBC building on Teddington High Street

By Oliver Monk 15th Jul 2024

A Richmond-based developer has revealed new plans for the former HSBC bank building on the corner of High Street and Cedar Road in Teddington.

While the first designs were proposed as early as April 2019, Unico Developments has submitted a new planning application for the building's redevelopment following a consultation with the community in 2023.

The developer says 73 local residents attended the developers' consultation event last summer, with over 90 percent of those who gave feedback in favour of the proposed design.

The consultation, alongside comments from the Teddington Society, has led to this latest design, intended to better fit in with the conservation area surrounding the building.

This includes the ground floor now being used as a retail space instead of a restaurant, as well as changes to detail of the proposed shop frontages.

Eight flats are planned for the three upper floors of the new building.

Residents are able to comment on the new plans via Richmond Council's website here until Friday 26 July.

In a statement to Nub News, the developers said the new plans will:

  • "Remove the disused, derelict building from this prominent corner site in the heart of Teddington.
  • "Bring forward a high-quality, thoughtfully designed scheme to complement the other buildings on the High Street.
  • "Create a new retail space on the ground floor to complement and add to the vitality of Teddington High Street
  • "Introduce eight new homes above the retail space, featuring a mixture of one and two-bed properties for rent.
  • "Incorporate modern sustainability features, including solar panels to generate electricity and modern insultation materials to reduce energy consumption.
  • "Feature a green wall and green roof spaces to promote biodiversity and sustainable drainage."

Unico Developments is also encouraging residents with questions about the submitted plans to get in touch with the project team by email at [email protected].
