New Aldi and bigger M&S Foodhall coming to Kew retail park

A new Aldi and bigger Marks and Spencer are coming to a retail park in Richmond borough. Kew Retail Park is undergoing a refresh to give residents greater choice in their weekly food shop.
The new Aldi will replace Sports Direct at the retail park, which is just off Mortlake Road in Kew. The move from the discount supermarket chain is expected to create around 40 new jobs.

The M&S Foodhall at the retail park will also nearly triple in size, from 743 to 1,876 square metres, which is set to create 30 new jobs. The store will be reorganised internally to allow for the extension, while keeping the same footprint.
The expanded Foodhall will have M&S' signature "cheese barge", fresh produce from its farms and wine and flower shops. Customers will be able to enjoy the full range of M&S food, including gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, vegetarian and nutrient-dense ranges.
The extension is part of M&S' multi-year property transformation programme, which is making key stores across the country bigger and better.
Richmond Council's planning committee approved both schemes to refresh Kew Retail Park on January 21.
Penny Moss, from agent Avison young, said the new Aldi will provide "healthy and affordable food for the local community".
She said: "The application proposes the reuse of an existing building and will introduce a new retailer to this part of the borough. As well as providing access to healthy and affordable food, the proposed development will create around 40 new jobs."
Leo Scarfe, town planning manager at M&S, said the bigger Foodhall will also provide a "best-in-class food offer in Kew and the wider area".
Mr Scarfe said: "The M&S store at Kew is long established and positioned in a popular location within the borough. The enhanced Foodhall offer will enable the full range of M&S food to be sold in the store, providing customers with access to over 6,600 products."
He added: "In addition to bringing significant investment to the store, improvements at Kew, it will create over 30 new local jobs. This will bring the total number of jobs at the store to approximately 180."
Mr Scarfe told the meeting M&S also planned to invest in its Richmond town centre store as part of the transformation programme, while other branches like Teddington had recently been modernised.
He said: "Alongside the enhancement of Kew, M&S want to ensure that they have the best stores for the wider borough."
