An investigation has been launched after a woman was found injured on the A316 in Twickenham on Wednesday evening.

Ambulance crews called police at around 7.50pm on to an injured woman on the A316.

The woman, whose injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, was taken to hospital in central London.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish how the woman was injured.

Last night, Richmond Police tweeted: "Motorists are advised to avoid the A316 as it is currently closed westbound between Currys Roundabout and Hospital Bridge Roundabout. Emergency services are on scene."

Separately, a number of people on social media reported police, fire and ambulance workers were seen last night around Twickenham Bridge and Richmond Lock. It is not known whether this is connected to the discovery of the injured woman.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at about 19:50hrs on Wednesday, 31 August to reports of an injured woman on the A316 in Twickenham.

"Officers and London's Air Ambulance attended.

"The woman was taken to a central London hospital; her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish how the woman came by her injuries."
