Munira Wilson, MP for Twickenham, has today written to the landlord of Park Lane Stables, urging him in the "strongest possible terms" to prevent the closure of the much-loved stables.

This follows the news last week that the landlord has chosen not to renew the lease, which is due to expire on 31 May 2021, because he wishes to sell the property to developers.

In the letter, Munira urged the landlord to reconsider this decision, given the "importance and value of the riding schools to both its users and the local community".

Munira Wilson MP said:

"It is incredibly disappointing news that Park Lane Stables is facing the threat of closure. The stables have been a key part of the local community in Teddington for 12 years and they do extremely important work for those with disabilities, especially children.

"Every year, Park Lane Stables provides some 3000 sessions for 350 local people with physical, sensory and learning disabilities and mental health issues.

"The loss of these stables would be devastating, not just for those who use the stables, but for many local residents.

"It's fantastic to see such strong support from the community, including the Teddington Society. I will do all I can to support them in their fight to keep the stables on their current site. That's why I'm urging the landlord to reconsider his decision to sell the property and instead renew the lease so that Park Lane Stables can continue their vital work."

Natalie O'Rourke, manager of the stables, said:

"We are so grateful for the support from Munira, The Teddington Society and our whole community. Munira's visit really lifted our spirits and gave our campaign the direction we needed.

"The support we have received has given us strength and we remain hopeful. We are determined to keep our home in Teddington Town and with Munira's support we are sure this is possible."
