The Purple Elephant Project (PEP), a Twickenham-based children's mental health charity, has today (Monday, 13 October) announced that local MP, Munira Wilson, will become a Patron, strengthening PEP's mission to transform the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and families across the community.

Munira, who is also the Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Education, Children and Families, has long been a passionate advocate for children's mental health.

From campaigning for a qualified mental health practitioner in every school to championing support for kinship carers, she has consistently placed children's wellbeing at the heart of her work.

Her support comes at a pivotal time for PEP, which provides specialist creative therapies and emotional support to children and families navigating trauma, anxiety, bereavement and other challenges.

The charity's evidence-based approach focuses on meaningful, long-term change, helping children build resilience and thrive.

As Patron, Munira will play a vital role in continuing to raise awareness of children's mental health; advocating for early intervention; championing family voices; and increasing the visibility of PEP's work and the positive, life-changing impact it has on children and families.

As part of her new role as Patron, Munira's first fundraising event for PEP will be running the Cabbage Patch 10 race in Twickenham on 19 October. Anyone wishing to support her efforts can do so here.

Munira Wilson MP said: "I am truly honoured to become Patron of The Purple Elephant Project. I've seen first-hand how vital their work is in supporting children's emotional wellbeing and giving them the tools to thrive.

"The charity's commitment to early intervention and long-term support makes a life-changing difference to children and families, and I am excited to help shine a light on their impact.

" I look forward to continuing to raise awareness of their work, championing the importance of children's mental health in Parliament, and helping them reach even more families."

Jenny Haylock, CEO, The Purple Elephant Project, added: "We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Munira as our Patron. Her passion for children's mental health and deep understanding of the challenges families face align perfectly with our mission.

"Having Munira's support will help us raise the profile of our work, strengthen our voice, and champion the needs of children in our community."
