Monthly food market opens outside Teddington pub owned by celebrity chef Raymond Blanc's firm
A new monthly food market has opened outside a historic pub in Teddington, in a boost to the high street.
Ted's Market will take place on the last Saturday of every month in the car park of The King's Head, on Teddington High Street, which is owned by Heartwood Collection, a firm co-founded by celebrity chef Raymond Blanc.
The market was held for the first time on 26 October, in the same week it won planning permission from Richmond Council.
It attracted more than 1,600 people over the day.
There will be six regular traders at the market, along with guest traders.
The regular traders will be Olivier's Bakery, Wild Fish Project, Wild Country Organics, Lorna's Indian Kitchen, Ralph's Delicatessen and The French Comte.
Guest traders will sell products including olive oils, soups, olives, coffee and cakes.
Organiser Ted's Market said, in application documents, it wants to build "something sustainable and popular for the local community, as well as successful for our traders".
It has permission to run the market for five years, but it hopes to extend this depending on its success.
The market will be open from 9am to 2pm on the last Saturday of every month, although December will see a market held mid-month in the lead up to Christmas.
Any customers driving to the pub during the hours of 12pm, when it opens, to 3pm will need to find alternative parking.
The King's Head dates back to 1689, with the current building undergoing a revamp after it became part of the Heartwood Collection in 2010.
The firm owns the Brasserie Blanc and Heartwood Inns chains.
A spokesperson for The King's Head said: "We are delighted to have been given permission for the market to be held, the first of its kind in Teddington.
"It will not only increase footfall to the high street by creating another reason to visit Teddington but it will also support local producers and suppliers.
"We held our inaugural 'Ted's Market' last week to great success with the next two markets due to take place on November 30 and December 16 when we will be joined by even more stallholders."
From 2025 onwards, the dates of the market will be published at the start of every year.
