A man has been arrested in connection with a series of frightening stalking offences involving women and girls across the borough.

The details emerged after reports of a man matching the same description pestering, following and shouting at women and girls, creating real fear and reducing at least one to tears.

Richmond Police told Nub News: "On March 17, a male suspect was arrested for a public order offence on Barnes Green.

"It was alleged that this male had been following a female causing her harassment, alarm and distress.

"This male has now been linked to several other reports whereby members of the public have reported being followed in the Barnes and Sheen area.

"Concerns have been shared by residents from Kew, Sheen, Mortlake and Barnes on social media platforms including NextDoor."

The police added: "This arrest is a positive result and since the suspect has been arrested, there has been no further linked incidents reported to police.

"Local Barnes Safer Neighbourhood Team will still remain vigilant whilst out on patrols over this weekend but we remind public to ring 999 in an emergency."

A number of frightening incidents were identified by people via Nextdoor with the result the details and description were shared with the police.

One resident said: "By my count at least seven reports of this guy harassing different women. Good that women are coming forward."

Another said: "I'm working in a shop today and this man was harassing a shop assistant next door asking her out … He wouldn't go away - even when he saw her in tears."

Another said: "I was harassed and followed by this man today. Eventually, the police got involved and took him away."

One worried parent said: "The same guy followed our daughter back from Barnes Pond to our house."
