Lockdown leads to crime dropping by 50% in Teddington

Crime in Teddington has dramatically fallen due to the lockdown according to the latest statistics.
Just 31 crimes were committed in the area during April 2020 according to the new Metropolitan Police stats.
This is almost a 50 percent drop from the previous month as 57 crimes were committed in TW11 during March 2020.
This is also a big fall compared to last year where 47 crimes were committed in Teddington last April.
Theft is still the most common offence in the area with 324 counts reported in the last two years.
Crime throughout London has decreased by 26 percent in April compared to March and the Met Police have put this down to the lockdown measures.
Met Police commissioner Cressida Dick said:
"Many, many crimes have been reduced as you would expect.
"Knife crime has dropped considerably."
Teddington is certainly one of the safer areas of London with 149 crimes being committed per 1000 people.
This is compared to the average across London of 195 crimes being committed per 1000 people.
The borough of Richmond upon Thames is the safest in London with the lowest average crime rate across the whole city.
The borough has a crime rate of just 127.7 crimes per 1000 people.
Hampton is the safest area of the borough besides Bushy and Richmond Park with just 99 crimes per 1000 people.
South Richmond however is by far the area where the most crime is committed in the borough with a crime rate of 299.
As lockdown measures continue to be relaxed crime rates are expected to rise again.
