A local woman is warning residents of uneven pavement stones after falling in Teddington over the weekend.

Lisa D, who is from Strawberry Vale, fell over an uneven pavement stone on Cambridge Road on Saturday, 18 January.

The accident caused Lisa to fracture her cheekbone, damage nerves to her teeth, and bruise her face.

She told Nub News: "The entire right side of my face is black. Thankfully, my eye is intact. Two wonderful ladies, one of whom happened to be a nurse, helped me and I'm extremely grateful to them - they restored my faith in human nature!"

Lisa added: "We know the pavements won't be repaired, so please be careful - I know I will."

She said that she did not bother going to the hospital because her brother is a doctor and a dentist.

"He told me my cheekbone (zygomatic bone) was fractured," Lisa added.

Lisa has retired from working in the city after "many years and walks between 11 - 12 miles a day through Teddington, Bushy Park, and Twickenham.

Speaking about Saturday's accident, she added: "Funnily enough, because of the uneven paving stones, if there's no traffic on the side roads, I walk on the roads, but I was unable to do that on Saturday in Cambridge Road.

"I'm thankful to have both of my eyes. My teeth are a bit of a worry, but one day at a time - I'm waiting for the bruises to go."

It’s easy to report issues with the pavement - you can do it on Richmond council website. It takes a few minutes and you can even upload a photo. I have done it a few times in the past 6 months and I have found they come very quickly to fix the problem and are also very polite. Do take a few minutes to report issues and make our pavements safer.

The problem is we have become victims of our own low expectations for local government. This poor lady doesn’t expect the pavements to be fixed - and neither does anyone else - and the parks are no longer patrolled, we’ve lost police stations, we’ve lost many services. And still our charges go up. Ask yourself who is benefitting from your council taxes.
