Munira Wilson, MP for Twickenham, has tonight written to the Prime Minister urging him in the "strongest possible terms" to sack Dominic Cummings, his most senior advisor.

This follows reports that Dominic Cummings ignored coronavirus lockdown rules by travelling over 250 miles to visit his parents.

In her letter, Munira warns that "public confidence and trust" in the government's handling of the coronavirus crisis will be "severely diminished" if they continue to back Cummings.

Munira Wilson MP said:"Hundreds of local residents have been in touch with me to express their fury and dismay that the Prime Minister's most senior advisor, Dominic Cummings, travelled from London to Durham.

"This was fragrantly in breach of the government's guidelines.

"Many residents have written to me with exceptionally moving accounts of being unable to be with loved ones when they were dying, unable to attend funerals of loved ones and unable to care for close family members who are physically or mentally unwell.

"I want to say thank you to them for doing the right thing, for following the guidance and protecting all of us.

"I share my constituents' rage that those at the top of government think that it is one rule for them and one rule for the rest of us.

"If there is to be any credibility in the governments' public health messaging, Boris Johnson must sack Dominic Cummings.

"Inaction from the Prime Minister undermines the public health guidance his government has released; potentially putting more lives at risk. I will continue to press this issue strongly on behalf of my constituents."
