By Tilly O'Brien 20th Mar 2026
The House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) above the main building at Teddington Railway Station could be converted into separate residential units.
South Western Railway (SWR) has submitted a planning application to Richmond Council seeking permission for an internal refurbishment of the Grade II listed building and the change of use from one HMO unit to two residential units.
The proposed works are summarised below:

- First Floor Communal
- Existing bathroom door to be stripped and opening infilled;
- New fire door installed at top of the stairwell.
Single Bedroom Flat

- Partition wall between central North East facing bedrooms to be stripped out and wall junctions made good;

- New entrance formed between bedrooms to form access between new Hallway and access to new Shower Room and Kitchen.
Two Bedroom Flat

Apart from alteration to the canopies and internal refurbishment to the booking hall, the main station building is largely unchanged since it was first built in 1863 by the London and South Western Railways (LSWR). It was granted listed building status in November 2012.
The main station building is two‐storeys high with single‐storey wings.
It is limited to public access as the majority of the station is for authorised access. The public areas include the ticket hall which acts as the main entrance, platform access and ticket office, and a waiting room.
Richmond Council expects to make a decision on this application by 5 May.
