The Bad Boy Pizza Society, which started out as a university pizza appreciation group, has launched a lockdown pizza delivery service in Teddington.

The former Southampton University students had hoped to establish a pop-up pizza facility at markets in London but COVID-19 scuppered their plans so now they are operating a delivery service in Teddington with a Peugeot van called Penelope.

The business is being run by former sociology student Henry Hill, aged 23, and his brother, Angus, using portable pizza ovens from their family home in Teddington. They are selling up to 50 pizzas a day between Tuesday and Saturday.

"The pizza business in Teddington is booming," said enterprising Henry. "We only started this because of the lockdown but the demand has been so great that we think we will carry on with the business, at least for a couple of days a week.

"We had been selling pizzas for parties and private events but now that has stopped we had to find another way of making the business work and, now after ten weeks, we are doing really well.

"We had had big plans to get into the markets in London but coronavirus put a stop to all of that but that seems to have been a blessing in disguise because things are really going well in Teddington."

Their distinctive white van with green and red lettering and a slice of pizza on the side can be seen whizzing around the Teddington streets on its delivery rounds.

Their lockdown menu includes pizzas with quirky names such as the 'The Beauty and the Yeast'" with lashings of marmite and the topically named "Doughvid-19" which includes zucchini, The Rusty Engine and The Crusty Old Goat and range in prices from £6 to £10.

The company is also donating £2 to the NHS from the sale of every one of their "N.H.S. (Nduja, Honey and Sesame)" pizzas, with over £100 having been donated already.

They deliver around Teddington from Tuesday to Saturday evenings, to get in contact either send a direct message on Instagram, or a text message to 07530 872 367.

Background to the Bad Boy Pizza Society

Starting as an all-inclusive pizza society at Southampton University, we started going around the best local pizzerias, learning about all things pizza. This naturally led to our first 'Tour' where we explored Naples with 50 bad boys and girls - and what a trip that was.

Soon after this, we invested in our first Ooni pizza oven and started making our own 'za in our back yard. It took us a while to perfect our dough recipe and even longer to fine-tune all our pizza-making techniques. Our iconic back yard pizza parties naturally led to us selling 'za at friend's parties which is where we really developed the love for distributing our pizzas.

In the last year, half the team has continued to smash various events down in Southampton, whilst the other half started the famously hard transition to bring our renowned za's to the capital. And in February we went on a second Tour to Rome, learning even more about the history and heritage of favourite Italian dish.

Since the beginning of 2020, we've been attending a range of events around London with our pop-up pizzeria and army of Ooni pizza ovens.

Our first summer of trade was lining up to be nice and eventful - but then COVID-19 hit. All events and festivals have had to be put on hold. We've since had to make ends meet and we're now operating two separate delivery services - in Teddington and Southampton.

Once life resumes the Bad Boys are ready to rejoin forces and take on London, together.
