A Harbour Porpoise has been spotted in the River Thames near Twickenham yesterday, 29 February.

The Harbour Porpoise is a dolphin-like animal that is actually more closely-related to narwhals and beluga whales.

Smaller than it's relatives, porpoises often stay close to coastal areas or river estuaries.

The Porpoise was spotted by X user (formerly Twitter) @KaptainKwack near to Eel Pie Island, heading upstream towards Teddington.

He said: "This was my first sighting ever of these marine mammals in the Thames!

"It had dozens of gulls circling above, which allerted me."

This follows a number of recent sightings of Grey Seal around Teddington.
